The darker shadow on the left and pale ground on the right strengthen the impression that this intricate mass rests on a surface. Repetition becomes easier to notice than in #252, although the image still withholds a simple count of its components. The surfaces can evoke folded sheets, especially where narrow edges meet broad triangular faces. That is a visual analogy rather than evidence of simulated paper. The nearly continuous palette lets changes in slope do much of the differentiating work: a slight turn away from the light can make one face separate from the surrounding mass.
