# Fernweh research

Full 19534-byte program read, digest/query in project-evidence.json. Hash split in two seeded sfc32-like generators with 1m total warmup calls, alternated per random_dec. Features weighted cumulative tables. Seasons Spring .35, Autumn .30, Summer .25, Winter .10; thresholds not edition census. Leaf shapes, sizes, canopy/tree counts, tree height range, bark pattern/shade/periderm, interval and rendering order selected. Native working buffers1920x926 (landscape). 3 offscreen renders plus background. Background subdivided displaced polyline layers with low alpha; code credits Kjetil Golid watercolour approach, Robert D'Arcy segmented-bark sketch and earlier tutorial, Alexandre Bizord reviews/optimization. OpenProcessing retrieval403; tutorial DNSfailure. Credits verified in code, not blanket licence verification.

Trees start at bottom random x; recursive branches scale length .66, width half. Segment number10/5/1 by length; subdivided tilted line strips shade tapered trunk. Short branches fan to 2-4-ish random floating loop bound; leaf sprites at tips. Spots/lenticles/furrows/rings mark bark; Wild picks patterns per tree. Leaf sprite reused with seasonal boundaries, vein/connector colours. Abstract uses transparent trunk strokes plus shadows, Etched offset shadow; Original double drawn inset leaf. d_texture_type entries each probability1 means chosen first reference; generateRender mutates d_texture.name before randomizeSettings, so same object reference retains requested mode. Do NOT mistake this for a mode reset bug.

Important repeatability caveat: trunk calls rnd(random(-PI/6,-PI/8),0), inner p5 random is not hash-seeded anywhere (no randomSeed in full script). R reset each render, but do not claim complete identical geometry across reloads or modes. No quantitative repeatability test yet.

Timing uses millis since page load, not calendar/chain timestamp. After generation stores three buffers; timed crossfade with smoothstep in last1second interval; options6h,12h,1d,2d,3d,5d,7d,fortnight,month. mousePressed fast-forwards timer via hack only after generation and outside currenttransition. S/s savePNG handler inspected, not invoked. Noaudio.

Visuals: official PNG previews 2400x1158 inspected in ownbrowser at1280x720. #0 pale yellow tiny foliage, sparse faint trunks, misty purple/rose ground; floating broken canopy overhead, trunks almost dissolve. #1 dense dark grey trunks and angular branches, tiny purple foliage, pale cyan/grey background; layered trunks give apparent depth. #10 brown large rhomboid leaves form dense horizontal crowns, dark spotted trunks, cyan/teal watery background. #20 gold dense pointed crowns above long grey trunks on pale purple/grey background; gaps form arch-like openings, lower groundgrey. #40 AB5D airy green small leaves and narrow trunks/branches, pale grey ground, pink upperleft/cyan upperright wash; open branching structure dominates.

Follow-up: #40 original completed, observed green woodland over cooler blue-green ground. First click dark textured bark/foliage; second click translucent pale trunks. Both transitions verified visually. Earlier timeouts were not proof of renderer failure. Long unattended transition not tested.
