The work and its context

Glow makes light appear to emerge from a changing geometric surface. Jason Ting’s forms can be barely distinguishable from their coloured surroundings or sharply articulated as rings and folded motifs. Their identity depends on the relationship between shape, translucency and colour. The indexed edition contains 500 works and is project 230. ¹²

Conception and development

The official description begins with transformations of a flat plane into iridescent structures. It documents a responsive WebGL2 artwork, space-bar pause, a quality toggle on q and screenshot capture on s. These controls belong to the work’s intended viewing conditions; this pass compares its captured images. ¹³

How the work was constructed

The submitted script inspection identifies the runtime as three@0.124.0. Its account of the seed is: Hash selects speed, style, density, palette, mirror and translucency. These token-specific choices establish the parameters from which the drawing is generated. The code digest and retrieval locator remain in the research record. ⁴

The three.js system begins from transformations of a plane, according to the artist. The supplied inspection identifies speed, style, density, palette, mirroring and translucency as selected parameters. Together they control both geometry and the way it separates from the background. Mirroring can make a form symmetrical without making its colour field uniform. The responsive renderer also makes viewport dimensions part of presentation; the official statement requires WebGL2. ¹²⁴

The supplied Art Blocks index records 500 minted works against a maximum of 500. Its first-token field gives 8 December 2021; activation is dated 10 December 2021; the scheduled-start field gives 14 December 2021; and completion is dated 14 December 2021. Full timestamps are retained in the evidence record. These fields describe different events and should not be collapsed into a single launch date. ²⁷

An earlier first mint does not establish a reserved or artist allocation. The supplied research does not classify those transactions or independently recover the original public unit price. No exact public sellout duration is asserted from the interval between index fields. ¹²

Close reading of examples

The comparison uses editions 0, 1, 10 and 20, identified by their canonical token links. These form a small early-edition sample, not a statistical description of the whole series. ⁷⁹

In #0, a faint violet caret emerges from a saturated pink-red field. Low contrast makes recognition uncertain. The apparent light is created through adjacent colours rather than a clearly isolated bright object. ⁵

In #1, a broken circular structure floats across soft green, orange and turquoise regions. Fine edges provide local definition while the background diffuses it. The ring can read as both object and interference pattern. ⁵

In #10, several angular chevrons repeat across a warm-to-cool field. Orange and yellow edges separate briefly before dissolving into green. The serial motif directs attention sideways rather than enclosing a centre like #1. ⁵

In #20, dark and pale diamond-shaped folds sit on a beige ground. The restrained colour makes the geometry much more explicit. Soft shadows or blurred regions complicate the otherwise crisp symmetry. ⁵

Significance and limitations

Glow’s range is not simply a set of palettes applied to one shape. It varies how confidently a shape can be separated from its atmosphere, making that act of perception part of the subject. ⁵
