Himinn

The work and its context

Himinn is a 536-edition Art Blocks Factory series by Sarah Ridgley on the V2 core contract 0xa7d8d9ef8d8ce8992df33d8b8cf4aebabd5bd270. The official collection page places it in Art Blocks 500 / Factory and prints a fixed edition of 536 unique artworks.¹ Indexed project metadata retrieved on 18 September 2026 records project ID 171, slug himinn-by-sarah-ridgley, script type p5@1.0.0, license CC BY-NC-ND 4.0, vertical name factory, heritage status ab500, website https://twitter.com/sarah_ridgley, and 536 of 536 invocations.² Atlas position 168 is an index number, not the contract project ID.

The stored project description calls Himinn "a painterly cloud study exploring light, color, and the generative composition of clouds in the sky." It states that the algorithm creates natural forms and "the illusion of ever-changing atmosphere through carefully structured layers of color and shape." It translates the title: Himinn means "a sky," and adds that it has been "incredibly fun to paint the skies with code."¹²

Sarah Ridgley's official website field is an X/Twitter profile.²³ The AB5D dossier is a bibliography lead, not a primary statement of this series.⁴ This essay uses the on-chain description, the indexed script, and inspected outputs.

Conception and development

No dated standalone interview unique to Himinn was attached to the assignment snapshot. The conception document that can be pinned to this slug is the project description stored on the collection page and in projects_metadata.description.¹² That text is explicit about medium: painterly, layered, an illusion of atmosphere rather than a meteorological model. "Ever-changing" is an artist claim about appearance. Whether the live generator actually animates or only suggests change in a still is a construction question.

The Twitter profile listed as website supplies artist context. Individual posts were not treated as dated project briefs.³ Later AB5D prose that restates the sky metaphor is treated as secondary.⁴ Ridgley's other long-form series are outside this slug. Mentioning them would not verify Himinn's layer order or palette thresholds.

Published token features in this sample are small: lighting, formation, and total_clouds. Sampled lighting values include day, late afternoon, sunset, midnight, and storm. Formation is full on every sampled token. Cloud counts run from 15 to 20.⁵ Those labels should be checked against stills. Day versus midnight should show as palette, not as a clock.

What the description does not say is also useful. It does not claim a mint price, a Dutch schedule, or a public-sale duration.²⁶ It also does not list keyboard controls or an audio hook. Those absences match the inspected script, which has neither a named key handler nor a sound API. The "fun to paint the skies with code" sentence is tone, not a technical specification of brush mechanics.¹

How the work was constructed

The indexed record reports script type and version p5@1.0.0.² The full script was retrieved on 18 September 2026 from projects_metadata.script on https://artblocks-mainnet.hasura.app/v1/graphql, filtered by contract 0xa7d8d9ef8d8ce8992df33d8b8cf4aebabd5bd270 and project_id "171". The UTF-8 payload is 6594 bytes. SHA-256 of those exact bytes is 0c614fe864ddb9232e7c6d5a04517b334d94772dd5fef89db1d40ca041b7464b. The script was read in full and was not executed in a local sandbox.⁵

The body is minified p5. It parses tokenData.hash into a Uint32Array xorshift generator R, with a comment fragment tx piter visible near the PRNG, then builds sky and cloud registers. setup calls createCanvas and pixelDensity(1). noLoop() is present in the inspected bytes, which is consistent with a drawing that finishes rather than a continuous weather animation. There is no named mouse or key handler. No Tone.js or Web Audio API appears.⁵

"Illusion of ever-changing atmosphere" in the project text is therefore read as layered paint, not as a measured live loop. A media-proxy PNG is a completed frame after noLoop(), not a mid-draw screenshot.¹⁵ What is stored on chain is the project script plus each token hash. Rendering still requires a browser, p5 1.0.0, and the generator shell. The project record marks the script locked. No Ethereum block was pinned.²

The mint

Several clocks have to be kept apart. Token 171000000, invocation 0, was minted on 24 September 2021 at 18:59:52 and is currently owned by 0x0c192889c5 as indexed.⁵ The project record's activated_at is 28 September 2021 at 19:16:27. start_datetime is 30 September 2021 at 16:00:00.² Invocation 1 (token 171000001) was minted on 30 September 2021 at 16:29:47. Invocations 10 and 20 followed at 16:37:00 and 16:37:53 the same day. Header invocation 395 was minted on 5 October 2021 at 23:56:46. completed_at is 15 October 2021 at 17:04:47.²⁵

Invocation 0 therefore predates activation by four days and public start by six. It is the natural candidate for an artist or administrative mint; contract event logs that would prove the minter role were not pulled. Public minting evidence in this sample begins with invocation 1, twenty-nine minutes after start. From start to completed_at is 15 days, 1 hour, 4 minutes. That long tail is not a same-day Factory snap sale. This essay does not invent a reason for the mid-October close.

Invocations and max_invocations both read 536 on 18 September 2026.² The collection page confirms the completed fixed edition.¹ No Dutch-auction schedule or opening ETH price was recovered from the collection page or the indexed project record.⁶ Current secondary listings on the collection page are not a substitute for those historic increments. Who paid what for invocation 1 versus invocation 395 remains open.

Copyright and licensing

The project metadata field license is the exact string CC BY-NC-ND 4.0. No separate link_to_license field was stored on the indexed record inspected for this essay.² The Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International deed at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ permits sharing with attribution, forbids commercial use as defined in that deed, and forbids derivative works.⁷ Whether the artist intended that standard deed or only the short label is not documented in a project-specific instrument beyond the Art Blocks field.

Artwork rights are separate from source-code rights. The artist script is visible through the index and generator. Visibility is not a license to copy or reissue the program. No SPDX header was present in the inspected body.⁵ p5.js 1.0.0 is a third-party runtime; the artwork CC label does not relicense it.²

Close reading of examples

Four tokens from the assignment discovery set were confirmed on the V2 contract and inspected as media-proxy PNGs with linked generator URLs: invocations 0, 1, 10 and 20. Invocation 395, owned by 0xdd19308a9731cdecb67e0d80ca6823394208c045 on 18 September 2026, is the header object.⁵⁸⁹ Because noLoop() is in the script, these PNGs are treated as completed drawings, not mid-animation frames.⁵

Edition 0 (token 171000000) carries lighting=day, formation=full, total_clouds=19. The PNG is a landscape with a torn paper edge. A cyan sky grades to pale blue at the bottom. Two stacked white-lavender cloud masses occupy the center, built from soft overlapping dabs rather than hard outlines. Nineteen clouds is a trait count; the still reads as two main bodies with smaller fragments.⁵¹⁰

Edition 1 (token 171000001) is lighting=late afternoon, formation=full, total_clouds=20. The PNG keeps the torn edge. The sky is a deeper cobalt at the top, warming toward peach inside the cloud mass. Late afternoon is visible as that peach temperature, not as a sun disk. The bank is broader and lower than edition 0.⁵¹⁰

Edition 10 is sunset / full / 20. Edition 20 is midnight / full / 17. Header edition 395 is storm / full / 15. All five tokens exist on the stated contract. Midnight and storm should darken or gray the field relative to day; those stills were downloaded and confirm a darker register than edition 0 without becoming a night photograph in the cinematic sense.⁵¹⁰

The torn rectangular edge is shared across the sample and reads as a paper or watercolor sheet rather than a full-bleed browser canvas. That edge is a compositional frame visible in the PNG, not a trait string in the sampled feature list.¹⁰ Canonical token URLs use the chain/contract/id pattern. Displayed edition numbers are invocations.

Significance and limitations

Himinn is a locked Factory edition that paints skies in p5 and then stops. The stored brief asks for illusion of atmosphere. The script's noLoop() makes that illusion a finished picture, not a live weather feed.¹⁵ The fifteen-day close after public start is a pair of indexed clocks, not a reconstructed queue story.² A 536-edition cap is smaller than the 1,000 and 1,024 Factory series around it in this batch. The cap is an indexed maximum, not an explanation of why the last tokens took until mid-October to appear.

Limits of this account are specific. The generator was not stopwatch-timed through its draw before noLoop(). Invocation 0's minter role was not read from logs. Individual token prices were not recovered.⁶ The Twitter website field was not a substitute for a dated essay.³ Before publication, the coordinator refreshed the complete three-wallet AB5D linked-account set and checked the chosen token owner against it. The owner matched. The exact requests, returned identity and observation time are retained in the evidence record, separately from the earlier research snapshot. This is current indexed ownership evidence; it does not establish the acquisition date or historical custody of the work.²⁹
