# Research notes Series: planets by donnoh. Assignment AB5D-SERIES-090 in the pack's ordering. Package status draft-for-human-review. ## Sources and access Nine sources were inspected and all nine are cited. Source identifiers are not contiguous; one planned identifier was not reused after a source was dropped. Identity confirmed before research: chain 1, contract `0xa7d8d9ef8d8ce8992df33d8b8cf4aebabd5bd270`, project id 91, slug planets-by-donnoh. The atlas position of 90 was not used as a project id. The supplied metadata snapshot was treated as a lead and every field re-read live; refreshed values agreed with the snapshot. The title is lower case in both the index and the page heading and is preserved that way throughout. Access route: the cloud container has no egress to artblocks.io, the Art Blocks index, the media proxy or the generator, all failing at the outbound proxy with 403 on CONNECT. All live observation ran through the browser pane on the operator's computer. The website recorded on the project is a Twitter profile rather than an artist site and was not treated as a source. No interview exists in the index and none was located. ## Full script inspection Retrieved from `projects_metadata` filtered on the exact slug, with contract address and project id checked in the same response. Length 3,791 bytes. SHA-256 `5a1cb34c09372df8f6e02010b4ea14d634f15500d8ff722d0e125a453f768c52`, computed over the UTF-8 bytes via the Web Crypto API in the browser. Script count 1 and the single fragment reproduces the script field exactly. Coverage: the entire script was read in one pass. Structures traced: the hash accessor; setup, including canvas sizing, the colour inversion test, the frame rate and the fixed noise seed; the draw routine and the time increment with its direction test; the named incidence and range constants; the System class, including the binary star handling and the orbit construction loop; the Planet class, including radius, speed, ring dimensions and rotation, the ring, UFO and moon tests, the orbit adjustment for rings and moons, and the moon speed derivation; and the Planet draw method, including the orbit outline, the planet position, the UFO drawing, the ring ellipse and the moon. Direct findings recorded: there is no random number generator; the hash accessor returns overlapping eight-bit windows rather than successive bytes, so neighbouring parameters share four bits; orbit radii are accumulated from the contents of the orbit inside them; the palette is two fixed colours for the whole edition with an inversion flag; the Perlin noise seed is a fixed constant shared by all tokens, so moon speed is a deterministic function of planet speed; the extra-orbit-radius term is multiplied by a constant set to zero, so that hash read has no effect on output; and there is no loop disable anywhere in the program. The overlapping-window finding is reported as observed, with no claim about whether it was intended. It is raised as an editorial exception because anyone reimplementing the work or reasoning about parameter independence would need to know. External dependencies: declared `p5@1.0.0`, external asset dependency count zero. No network requests, no audio, no event listeners. No block reference was pinned; this was an index retrieval. Script content is not redistributed. ## Rule reproduction across the edition Three trait rules were read out of the script and recomputed from every token hash in the edition, then compared with the platform's indexed values. Rotation, from the first hash byte modulo four, matched on 512 of 512. Type, from the byte at accessor index 6 against the five percent inversion threshold, matched on 512 of 512. Binary, from the final byte of the hash against the five percent threshold, matched on 512 of 512. Three independent rules, three exact reproductions, no exceptions. This is the strongest available evidence that the retrieved script is the script that produced this edition. A coincidence found during that sweep is recorded deliberately. The edition contains 27 antimatter tokens and 27 binary tokens, and the two sets do not overlap at all. The two tests are unrelated, drawn from opposite ends of the hash, and the code contains no rule coupling them. With 27 and 27 out of 512 the expected overlap is between one and two tokens, so zero is well within chance. The matching counts are the kind of thing that invites a false reading, and it is recorded here and in the essay so that the relationship is not published as a design feature. ## Token identity and visual observation Five token identities were confirmed on the exact contract before use, plus a full sweep of all 512 rows. All four candidate identifiers supplied in the assignment exist. No token in this edition carries an empty trait object. Two substitutions were made at the example level. Invocation 496 was substituted in because it is the only token in the edition carrying two UFOs, and the UFO is the single figurative element in an otherwise entirely geometric project. Invocation 11 was substituted in because colour inversion is one of only two colour states in the whole work and none of the suggested tokens carries it. Invocation 10 was retained from the suggested sample after the sweep showed it to be the only six-ring token. The records for invocations 0, 1 and 20 are retained in the evidence file. Token page checks: five token URLs and the collection URL were requested and all returned status 200. No status has been fabricated. Images: four were loaded at native 2400 by 2400 through the platform media proxy and viewed. Two attempts to produce a magnified crop of the UFO glyphs on invocation 496 mispositioned the image and returned blank frames; both attempts were abandoned and the UFO description rests on the full-size view and on the drawing routine read from the script. Those failed attempts are recorded here rather than omitted. ## Motion and audio Motion was measured rather than assumed, and one methodological failure is recorded because it nearly produced the opposite finding. The first attempt sampled a 400 by 400 region at the top left of the canvas and returned five identical signatures across eight seconds. Taken at face value that would have supported a static conclusion. It is wrong: the planetary system is centred and the corner is empty background, so the sample contained nothing that moves. The sampling region was moved to a 600 by 600 area centred on the canvas and the result reversed completely: five distinct signatures across the same interval, with the bright pixel count steady at about 12,750, which is what orbital motion looks like, the same objects continuously repositioned. Independent corroboration came from the sketch itself. The elapsed-time variable advanced from 7.99 to 10.395 across five samples two seconds apart, which is 0.3 per second and matches the coded increment of 0.005 per frame at the reported sixty-two frames per second. Audio: no audio or video element in the rendered document and no audio anywhere in the script. No sound was heard because there is none. Autoplay policy never engaged. Interaction: no event listeners in the script, no documented controls, nothing responds to input. ## Header ownership and media The complete current AB5D wallet set was read from the platform's own profile record: `0xce6dc14c5494d8a4325a81d3b257d130fa2039d1`, `0x2247247ee0eee59557e6cd14f7e047f6a9309b5c` and `0xdd19308a9731cdecb67e0d80ca6823394208c045`. The ownership sweep returned token 91000359 held by the third address. The assignment's cached candidate named the same token and owner; the live check confirms rather than repeats it. A presentation problem specific to this project is recorded in the presentation file and raised as the first editorial exception. One of the edition's seven traits, Rotation, is a property of motion only. It is clockwise on 387 tokens and counterclockwise on 125, and it cannot be seen in any still image, including the platform's own previews. If the dossier prints a trait table beside a still, that value is unverifiable from what the reader is looking at. ## Mint chronology and calculations Events distinguished: first indexed mint 2021-06-12T21:45:03Z; activation 2021-06-12T22:39:12Z, fifty-four minutes later; second indexed mint 2021-06-16T19:00:20Z, duplicated in `start_datetime`; completion 2021-06-18T04:13:02Z. The fifty-four minute proof-to-activation gap is the shortest in this batch, where the range runs to thirty-six days. The owner of invocation 0 is the artist address on the project, which is true of four projects in this batch. One calculation is performed: second indexed mint to completion, 1 day, 9 hours, 12 minutes and 42 seconds, covering invocations 1 through 511. Labelled inferred. Not presented as a public sellout time, and the nearly four day gap between activation and the second mint is recorded because it shows activation did not open the sale. Timezone handling: the project page displays 17 June 2021 when read from a UTC+10 browser, which is the second-mint timestamp rendered locally; in UTC that timestamp is 16 June. Price: 50000000000000000 wei, that is 0.05 ETH, the lowest currently configured price in this batch, recorded as reported. No primary announcement of an original price was located. ## Rights and conflicts The only rights statement located is the index field `license` reading "CC BY-NC 4.0" with `link_to_license` null. The project page publishes none and the website of record is a social profile, so there is no artist-controlled page on which terms could be published. One matter is left open rather than resolved: because the work animates continuously and never returns to a starting state, there is no canonical frame, so a still is a moment the capturer chose. Nothing in the available rights material addresses how a reproduction of a chosen frame should be described or attributed, and no position is invented. The licence census across all 359 projects on this contract returns 34 distinct strings with only 87 carrying any link, which establishes the field as unvalidated free text. Artwork rights recorded as category creative-commons, label preserved exactly, terms url null, status reported. Code rights unknown and kept separate. Third-party p5 licensing recorded separately and not inspected. ## Unresolved questions and exceptions Eight exceptions are raised, all pending, all assigned to the publication coordinator: the Rotation trait being invisible in stills; the project page's missing animated badge; missing licence terms; unknown code rights; the artist record gap; the unverified original price; the overlapping hash windows; and the antimatter and binary coincidence. Unresolved leads not converted into sources: no interview or artist writing was located; the website of record is a social profile and was not pursued; the trait extractor producing the seven trait names is not in the retrieved script and was not located; upstream p5 licensing was not inspected. ## Actual model, tools, elapsed time and measured usage Model: claude-opus-5, served through the Claude desktop application in Cowork mode on the Claude Agent SDK. The batch routing label was "claude", a routing label and not a model identifier. The agent is not Astra. Tools actually used: HTTP POST to the Art Blocks public GraphQL index; a browser pane on the operator's computer for page rendering, text extraction, image inspection, live renderer execution and canvas sampling; a local reproduction of three trait rules run against all 512 token hashes; the Web Crypto API for the SHA-256 digest; local shell and file tools for package assembly and validation. No human reviewed or edited the prose. Word count: the coordinator waived the 1,500 to 2,500 word limit for this batch during the session. This essay runs longer than the original cap by that instruction. Elapsed work: produced within a single continuous session on 18 September 2026, Melbourne time. Telemetry: no token usage telemetry is exposed to the agent. All counts are null in usage.json with the reason given. Nothing estimated and labelled measured; batch totals not divided into invented per-essay figures. ## Coordinator review for publication The complete artist script was independently read; four original renderers were visually inspected in two changing states each. Achieved frame rate and audio audition are not claimed. The current complete AB5D wallet set and header owner were freshly checked. Code, chronology, rights and close-reading prose were revised; original Claude attribution is retained. Submitted census statistics and telemetry were not independently reproduced and are attributed accordingly. Historical mint terms, fuller conception accounts and separate artist-code rights remain explicit research questions. No raw artist script is redistributed. All eight submitted exception records retain their original reasons and specific coordinator dispositions.
