## The work and its context

Tropism imagines growth as a field of directional forms. Neel Shivdasani’s structures bend and turn through space, interrupted by small contrasting spheres. ## Conception and development

The artist explains tropism through growth influenced by environmental stimuli. That biological analogy frames the work’s changing directions and stability. It does not, by itself, establish that the program models a particular organism or physical environment. [^S01][^S07]

## How the work was constructed

The submitted script inspection identifies the runtime as p5@1.0.0. Its account of the seed is: Hash selects palette, stability and perspective. Repeated forms establish a directional field, while bends and changes of orientation interrupt uniform growth. Perspective makes some arrangements read as rows of upright ribbons and others as concentric depressions. ## Close reading of examples

In #0, pale pink upright ribbons run diagonally across a darker ground. Their folded edges establish depth, while small turquoise spheres punctuate the gaps. The close view makes the field continue beyond the frame. [^S09]

In #1, pink forms turn around a dark opening. Their stepped edges create a corrugated funnel, with small bright spheres caught between the larger structures. Rotation organises the whole field rather than merely changing an individual element. [^S09]

In #10, pink walls form an open, angular maze against a dark background. Yellow spheres stand out within the passages. Large interruptions and right-angle turns make space between structures unusually legible. [^S09]

In #20, turquoise forms curl around a central depression. A few orange spheres provide concentrated colour contrast. Compared with #1, the cooler palette and wider dark gaps give the same broad organisation a different apparent weight. [^S09]

## Significance and limitations

The series treats direction as a compositional force. The repeated structures are recognisably related, but a field that streams diagonally differs substantially from one organised around a centre or broken into passages. [^S09]
