Woah La Coaster

The work and its context

Woah La Coaster is a 199-edition generative art series by the pseudonymous artist Blockwares, released on Art Blocks on Ethereum mainnet, contract 0xa7d8d9ef8d8ce8992df33d8b8cf4aebabd5bd270, project ID 324, in the factory category.¹² Each output is a flat cartoon scene rendered as SVG: a gradient summer sky, a yellow sun or stars, clouds, hot-air balloons and blimps, and along the bottom a black-lined roller coaster track whose little colored train rides the hills and loops in an endless loop.¹³⁴

The description sets the tone plainly: "Each generative roller coaster aims to embody the same happy narrative that our inner child would experience at a summer carnival", with background palettes that are "a pastel distillation of the best colors that a warm summer sky has to offer" and background elements drawn in "the vibrant primary colours that are found in the first box of pencils you would use as a child."¹ The coaster itself "harkens to a toy train set, carefully arranged on a fanciful track", producing "a single scene worthy of any kitchen fridge."¹ The series also carried a physical crossover: the description states that the owner of the NFT could acquire a set of four premium drink coasters inscribed with the unique artwork through the artist's site.¹

The AB5D dossier describes Blockwares as a pseudonymous generative artist with this single documented release, the debut issued July 1, 2022, and no public biographical details.² The series runs on raw SVG generation with no library dependency (registry type svg@na), at a square aspect ratio with zero external assets, carrying the CC BY-NC 4.0 licence; its artist script is 33,921 bytes.¹³

Conception and development

The conception is nostalgia engineered as a system. Every element in the description points at childhood memory: the summer carnival, the first box of pencils, the toy train set, the kitchen fridge where a drawing earns its place.¹ The work translates that memory into a modest vocabulary of parts, sky gradients from day to dusk to night, balloons, blimps, stars, clouds, and one procedurally assembled coaster track, and lets the mint hash deal out which carnival each collector gets.¹³

The pseudonymity is part of the picture: Blockwares has no public biography, and the dossier records exactly one release, making Woah La Coaster a single-statement practice, an artist who exists, publicly, as this one summer afternoon.² The physical-coaster offer extended the kitchen-fridge logic into the home: the digital artwork could be inscribed on an actual set of four coasters, closing the loop between the on-chain scene and the domestic object it was designed to evoke.¹

No Woah La Coaster-specific interview was located; the registry interview field is empty, and the project's registered website, blockwares.io, failed DNS resolution at inspection time, so the conception account rests on the description, the dossier and the script.¹²

How the work was constructed

The full artist script was retrieved from the official indexed project record at the Art Blocks mainnet GraphQL endpoint, filtered by the exact slug woah-la-coaster-by-blockwares and corroborated against contract 0xa7d8d9ef8d8ce8992df33d8b8cf4aebabd5bd270 and project ID 324. The retrieved script is 33,921 bytes with SHA-256 digest 1d31a2e926bf46b31736095555871879b6789a4c1d68a043c7f83fa891364a1d, and it was read in full.¹³

Randomness comes from a dual sfc32 generator: two instances are seeded with the first and second 32-character halves of the chain hash, warmed up with 500,000 iterations, and alternated for every draw through an r_dec() method, with r_num, r_int, r_bool and r_choice helpers layered on top.³ The scene is composed entirely as SVG: the script builds the sky as a color gradient, places the sun (or, for night variants, stars), clouds, balloons and blimps as vector shapes, and lays out the coaster as a continuous stroked path with hills and at least one loop, the little train cars positioned along the track curve.³⁴

Animation is handled with requestAnimationFrame, advancing the train along the track path so the cars climb, dive and loop perpetually; there is no interaction and no audio.³ The live renderer confirmed the contract on token 324000046: the reported hash matched the chain record, the page contains a live SVG element, frames captured at 5, 15 and 30 seconds all differed as the train moved along the track, and no audio or video elements exist in the page.⁵

The mint

The dated record, observed in the current Art Blocks index on September 20, 2026, shows a brief public sale after a small pre-mint.¹⁶ Editions 0, 1 and 2 were minted on June 7, 2022, edition 0 at 23:08:31 UTC and edition 1 at 23:14:00 UTC, both to the same address, three days before the project was activated on June 10 at 23:01:22 UTC; these are pre-activation artist-side mints.¹⁶ The registry's sale-start timestamp reads July 1, 2022 at 16:00:00 UTC, the official collection page carries "Released Jul 1, 2022, 4:00 PM UTC", and the dossier likewise records the debut as July 1, 2022.¹⁷²

The public sale ran about half an hour: the AB5D treasury's edition 46 minted at 16:30:43 UTC, and the final edition, number 198, at 16:32:07 UTC, thirty-two minutes after the announced start.¹⁶ The minted count equals the maximum of 199, and the project is marked complete, locked and active, with the paused flag false.¹ The registry's current price field reads 0 ETH, a post-sellout administrative value; no dated 2022 source inspected here states the original mint price.¹ The AB5D collection holds exactly one edition, number 46, held by wallet 0xdd19308a9731cdecb67e0d80ca6823394208c045.⁶⁸

Copyright and licensing

The project registry reports the artwork licence label "CC BY-NC 4.0" for Woah La Coaster, with the terms URL recorded in the record.¹ This essay therefore categorizes the artwork licence as creative-commons, variant CC BY-NC 4.0.¹ The CC BY-NC 4.0 deed grants the freedoms to Share, copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format, and to Adapt, remix, transform and build upon the material, under two conditions: Attribution, giving appropriate credit with a link to the licence and an indication of changes; and NonCommercial, no use for commercial purposes. The deed also forbids applying additional legal or technological restrictions.⁹

The physical-coaster offer described in the registry description is a separate commercial arrangement between artist and token holder, not a licence term: the inscription of the artwork on merchandise offered by the artist does not itself grant holders a general commercial right, and with blockwares.io unresolvable at inspection, the offer's current availability is unverifiable.¹ The script carries no licence header or copyright comment of its own, so no code licence is reported for this package; the absence is recorded rather than resolved.³ The registry lists zero external asset dependencies and no runtime library beyond the browser's own SVG support.¹³ Owning a Woah La Coaster token conveys no copyright by itself, and no conflicting licence statements were found in the inspected sources. Images in this essay are referenced through canonical Art Blocks token pages and media rather than republished.⁶

Close reading of examples

Five outputs were inspected directly through their platform media, and the header was additionally exercised in the live renderer.⁵⁴

Edition 46 (token 324000046, minted July 1, 2022 at 16:30:43 UTC, half an hour into the sale), the AB5D-held header, is a clear daytime scene: a periwinkle-to-pale-blue gradient sky carrying a red-and-white striped blimp, a bright yellow sun and three puffy clouds, while below, the black track runs a sequence of hills with one small multicolored train cresting a rise.⁶⁸⁴ In the live view the train kept circulating, disappearing into the dip and reappearing over the hill, the toy train set in motion.⁵

Edition 0 (token 324000000, the pre-activation mint of June 7, 2022) is an afternoon scene: a yellow-to-blue gradient sky, a hot-air balloon striped in green, yellow, red, white and blue, the sun high at right, and a track with a full loop at lower left with red, yellow and green cars spaced along the line.⁶⁴ Edition 198 (token 324000198, the final mint) drifts toward evening: a yellow-blush sky, a yellow-striped blimp, loose balloons floating free, and a track with a tight loop-de-loop where white, yellow and blue cars cluster.⁶⁴

Edition 1 (token 324000001) is the busiest of the sample: a dusk blue-to-sand gradient, two blimps (yellow-striped and red-striped), a striped balloon, a low orange sun, scattered balloons, and a looped track crossing in front of the balloon's basket.⁶⁴ Edition 100 (token 324000100) is the quietest: a sunset gradient from pale blue to pink, a large orange sun half-set into the track line itself, two clouds, and a five-car train in white, blue, red and green climbing toward the light.⁶⁴

Significance and limitations

Woah La Coaster is the batch's purest exercise in register: one artist, one release, one afternoon of childhood, executed in the plainest possible medium (hand-built SVG) and aimed, by the description's own admission, at the kitchen fridge.¹³² Its thirty-two-minute sellout and its physical-coaster crossover document the 2022 moment when even a single-statement pseudonymous project could fill a carnival.¹⁶

Unresolved research questions, flagged for review:

• The original mint price at the July 2022 sale is not established by any dated 2022 source inspected here; the current registry price reads 0 ETH, a post-sellout value.¹
• blockwares.io, the project's registered website and the venue for the physical-coaster offer, failed DNS resolution at inspection (2026-09-20); the offer's details and current availability are unverifiable.¹
• No Woah La Coaster-specific interview was located; the registry interview field is empty, and the artist is pseudonymous with no public biography.¹²
• The night-variant scenes with stars are described and coded, but all five sampled outputs are daytime or dusk scenes; the star field was not observed directly in the sample.¹³⁴
• The physical coaster offer is reported from the description text; no inspected source confirms whether any sets were produced or delivered.¹
