Arjit Kapoor, who works under the name Chaosconstruct, belongs to the early Art Blocks generation that framed creative code not only as image production, but as a way of modelling systems. Art Blocks describes him as a generative artist interested in simulating natural and social systems, with works inspired by natural phenomena and social dynamics.1 The public record around Kapoor is concentrated rather than sprawling: an Art Blocks interview, project pages, a cryptoart profile, early Processing community material, and traces of pre Art Blocks experiments on Async and Cent. That sparse archive matters. It places the work less in the rhythm of a heavily mediated studio career and more in the lineage of artists whose practice is legible through code, outputs, and the conceptual grammar of systems.
Synapses, released as an Art Blocks Curated project in April 2021, is the central work for understanding Kapoor inside AB[500]. Art Blocks lists the project as 700 unique artworks, released on 5 April 2021.2 The series arrived at a formative moment for Art Blocks, when the platform was rapidly defining the cultural language of long form generative art: a single algorithm, a fixed edition, a minting mechanism, and a collector encounter with an output that neither artist nor buyer could fully predict in advance. In Kapoor's case, this mechanism becomes apt subject matter. The title Synapses names transmission, branching, and relation, while the images suggest a negotiation between neural tissue, botanical growth, vascular patterning, and diagrammatic flow.
A practice built from complexity
Kapoor's own account of his artistic development begins with discovery rather than institutional training. In the Art Blocks conversation with Jeff Davis, he describes encountering Anders Hoff's Inconvergent work on generative systems and then moving toward Processing after reading Matt Pearson's Generative Art.3 That origin is revealing because it situates the practice within a self taught, research driven culture of computational image making. Kapoor does not present code as a neutral tool for producing decorative abstraction. He frames it as a way to approach structures that already exist in the world: growth, diffusion, aggregation, variation, and the strange order that appears when a system is allowed to evolve.
That focus was visible before Art Blocks. A Processing Community Day Bangalore listing from 2019 identifies Kapoor as a speaker on "Generative art and its principals," and describes him as a multidisciplinary explorer whose works deal with understanding complexity and modelling natural systems.4 The same listing records a degree in Mechanical Engineering and an interest in the interplay between the natural and the mechanistic. This is a useful biographical hinge. Kapoor's images do not simply imitate nature, and they do not simply display computation. They test how algorithmic procedure can make a natural process feel palpable as an image, even when the depicted object is not a literal flower, organ, map, or machine.
CryptoArtNet's profile gives a compact artist statement that is consistent with this approach: Kapoor writes of using algorithms and code to create constructs, and of abstraction as "chaos in its natural form."5 The phrase is not casual branding. It describes the formal tension in Synapses: images that look unstable but not arbitrary, organic but not hand drawn, generated but not sterile. The visual field is a place where disorder has behaviour.
Before Synapses
The Art Blocks interview records Kapoor's first NFT work as Carbon Study, minted through Async, and describes it as an opening onto cryptoart after Fabin Rasheed introduced him to NFTs.6 Async's page for Carbon Study describes the work as a generative art exploration that tries to mimic graphite textures on white paper.7 A related Cent essay, also titled Carbon Study: An essay on generative art exploration, shows Kapoor already thinking through material translation, where code is asked to approximate the pressure, grain, and surface memory of drawing.8
This prehistory clarifies Synapses. The Art Blocks project is not merely a move from small scale experiment to large edition release. It is a shift from simulating surface to simulating relation. Graphite texture gives way to branching structure. The page becomes less like paper and more like an organism, a network, or a nervous diagram. In the interview, Kapoor also notes his interest in research papers about algorithms that shape natural structures, including Physarum and differential growth.9 Those references are central to the work's institutional reading. They place Synapses in a wider generative tradition in which aesthetic form emerges from a rule based process rather than from direct composition.
Synapses is most persuasive when read as a system image: a record of growth, pressure, connection, and controlled instability.

Synapses and the long form edition
The project's 700 edition scale is important. At this count, Synapses is not a small suite of selected variations but a large field through which the algorithm can demonstrate range. Market and archive pages continue to record the project as a 700 item Art Blocks collection, with OpenSea and NFT Price Floor preserving collection level metadata and secondary market context.1011 The edition size allows small changes in orientation, origin, density, and background to become part of the work's meaning. The collector is not only looking at a single image but at a sampled event from a larger computational biology.
Individual Art Blocks token pages make this more explicit by listing collection attributes such as origin, background, and orientation.12 These attributes do not merely classify outputs for marketplace sorting. They indicate the structural variables through which the program establishes visual difference. In a project titled Synapses, "origin" is especially suggestive. A branching form is never neutral about where it begins. Its beginning determines its spread, and its spread determines the kind of image it becomes.
The larger Art Blocks context also matters. Art Blocks describes its platform as a place where artists publish algorithmic systems that collectors bring to life as one of a kind artworks on the blockchain.13 OpenSea's Art Blocks collection page similarly explains that generative artists publish unique artworks through creative code, with randomness introduced into an algorithm so that a collector transaction triggers an unpredictable output.14 Synapses is almost a diagram of that process. The artwork's visual language of connection and firing resembles the platform's own mechanics: code, transaction, seed, output, provenance, display.
Natural systems and social systems
Kapoor's background in social science, referenced in the Art Blocks interview, sharpens the reading of Synapses beyond biological metaphor.15 A synapse is a biological connection, but connection is also a social condition. Networks form through repeated contact, transmission, reinforcement, and failure. In this sense, the work's branching forms can be read as social diagrams as much as nervous or botanical forms. They describe how structure appears from interaction.
This line of thinking also appears in a DADA.art discussion of secondary markets, where Kapoor participates in a conversation about power law distributions, cumulative advantage, and the way social systems often follow long tailed distributions.16 That discussion is not an artwork, but it is useful evidence of Kapoor's conceptual environment. He was attentive not only to natural complexity but to the behaviour of cultural and economic systems. Synapses therefore sits at a productive junction: it is formally organic, technologically generative, and socially aware.
The early 2021 release date places the project inside a broader Art Blocks formation. NFTValuations' 2022 market report lists Synapses by Chaosconstruct among early 2021 collections, preserving its position in the period when Art Blocks' historical field was being assembled.17 Verse's Art Blocks Curated overview and other educational accounts of Art Blocks describe Curated as a category through which the platform organized significant long form generative projects.18 Kapoor's contribution is quieter than some canonical headline projects, but it is not marginal. It gives AB[500] one of its clearest examples of the natural systems strand of early Art Blocks.
Institutional reading
The strength of Synapses lies in its refusal to resolve as a single reference. It is neural but not anatomical, floral but not botanical illustration, abstract but not detached from the world. Its forms appear to grow, twist, branch, or pulse across a pale field. The result is a restrained visual system that can carry several institutional histories at once: algorithmic drawing, natural simulation, early cryptoart, platform based editioning, and the migration of Processing culture into blockchain art.
Educational and press accounts of Art Blocks often emphasize that its value proposition is tied to the encounter between algorithm, blockchain, and collector activation.19 Kapoor's project makes that encounter visually intuitive. Each output feels like the afterimage of a signal moving through a system. The work's title gives viewers a biological entry point, but the edition gives them the conceptual frame: 700 unique artworks, each related, each different, each evidence of a single generative organism.
For AB[500], Kapoor's position is precise. He represents the artist as modeller, not as stylist alone. The work does not need spectacle to be historically useful. It shows how early Art Blocks could absorb a practice shaped by Processing, natural algorithms, engineering sensibility, and cryptoart experimentation, then translate it into a durable long form collection. Synapses remains a compact statement of what generative art can do when code is asked to make complexity visible.
