Daïm Aggott-Hönsch (born 1982, Hungary) is a self-described Muslim algorist, apeirographer, and AI artist whose practice sits at the intersection of mathematics, spirituality, and computational aesthetics.1 Working under the moniker DaïmAlYad, he has spent over a decade developing what he terms apeirography: an artistic discipline devoted to recognizing mathematics as an exceptional, timeless subject worthy of creative exploration.2 His work seeks to convey visions of the myriad improbable marvels concealed within mathematical systems and complex algorithms, proposing that the beauty embedded in these structures whispers of the divine.3
Aggott-Hönsch's entry into the crypto art space marked a significant expansion of his practice, allowing him to distribute algorithmic works as non-fungible tokens and reach a global collector base. His works appear in notable international collections including that of Metakovan, the Museum of Crypto Art, and the Government of Hungary.4 His approach is characterized by a commitment to what he calls Slow Art: audiovisual and generative works that reward prolonged attention rather than immediate consumption, deliberately resisting the rapid-fire temporality of social media platforms.5
Cryptoblots: Pareidolia on Chain
Cryptoblots (2020), Aggott-Hönsch's contribution to the Art Blocks Curated collection, comprises 1,921 unique editions generated through symmetrical random-walk algorithms.6 The series functions as an algorithmic homage to Hermann Rorschach's famous inkblot perception test, creating horizontally reflected abstract forms that entice the human compulsion for pareidolia: the tendency to perceive meaningful images in ambiguous visual patterns.7 Each output presents an indeterminate shape that the viewer is free to interpret in their own unique way, with no predetermined meaning imposed by the artist.

The series demonstrates remarkable chromatic and compositional range. Early grayscale prototypes eventually gave way to the more colorful final implementation, which Aggott-Hönsch noted is far easier on the eyes though the color tends to skew interpretations toward certain associations.8 The delight of the work lies in the uniqueness of each interpretation: one piece was nicknamed In the Times of Covid by its minter because it suggested a woman wearing a facemask, a pareidolic reading that became impossible to unsee once articulated.9 Cryptoblot #1044 from this series was later included in Sotheby's Natively Digital curated NFT sale in June 2021, part of the historic Art Blocks lot that established the marketplace legitimacy of generative art.10
Thereidoscope: The Mathematics of Vision
Following the success of Cryptoblots, Aggott-Hönsch released Thereidoscope (2021) on Art Blocks, a series of 630 editions that extends his investigation into algorithmic image generation and perceptual psychology.11 The title suggests a telescope or kaleidoscope for theory (from the Greek theoria), implying a device for viewing mathematical concepts rather than physical objects. Where Cryptoblots invited free association through symmetrical abstraction, Thereidoscope operates through more structured geometric transformations, creating outputs that suggest both organic growth and crystalline mathematical precision.

The work reflects Aggott-Hönsch's broader philosophical project, which he articulates in The Apeirographer's Manifesto (2016/2019): mathematics is not merely a tool for art but its fundamental subject, an exceptional and timeless domain that reveals the connective tissues binding human experience to the cosmos.12 In his practice, Big Infinity (the unfathomable collection of numbers stretching upward) meets Small Infinities (the endless divisions between any two numbers), creating a framework where human beings are understood as one beautiful, perpetual, multifaceted Small Infinity within the larger universe.13
Slow Art and the Crypto Aesthetic
Aggott-Hönsch's commitment to Slow Art represents a deliberate counterposition to the rapid consumption patterns typical of crypto art platforms. Works such as Ancestral Memory (2020), a six-minute audiovisual GAN-assisted piece that was a finalist for the NFT Awards 2020 Most Innovative NFT, are designed to be experienced over time rather than apprehended in a glance.14 The artist explains that in a perfect world, his works would hang on walls in digital frames, subtly shifting over hours or days, rewarding the viewer who returns to look again and discovers that the piece has transformed in their absence.15
This temporal generosity extends to his most ambitious project, The Changelings (2021), an hour-long audiovisual installation that combines AI-generated imagery, algorithmic distortion, and mathematical sonification to create what the artist considers his magnum opus.16 The work was exhibited in Hungary in a darkened room with large screens and immersive audio, offering viewers the intended Slow Art experience of gradual, almost imperceptible metamorphosis.17 Its scale, at approximately nine gigabytes for the compromised mintable version, points to the technical challenges of bringing such expansive time-based work to the blockchain.18
From Budapest to the Blockchain
Aggott-Hönsch's trajectory reflects the broader migration of generative artists from traditional computational art practices into the crypto space. Before his blockchain work, he exhibited in venues including the Royal Cornwall Museum in Truro, United Kingdom (2019) and various galleries in Toronto, Canada, where he was based for a period.19 His early algorithmic work explored Pickover biomorphs and fractal systems, visualizing mathematical functions that produce organic, often microscopic forms resembling biological specimens.20
The artist's intellectual framework draws equally from mathematical rigor and spiritual conviction. As a Muslim creator, he approaches computation as a form of devotion, seeking to reveal the anthropic conception of beauty within mathematical structures that whisper of the divine.21 This synthesis of faith and algorithm distinguishes his practice from purely secular generative art, infusing his systems with a sense of reverence for the underlying order of creation.
His more recent work has expanded into AI-assisted and GAN-based practices, including the adversarial portrait series Apprehension (Artifice & Insight) (2023) and the surrealist landscape series Hidden Mistress (Dreams of Xarané) (2022), both of which explore the human condition through intentional subversion of image synthesis systems.22 The 2022 series Isles upon Deemed Rivers & Other Wonders, released through UltraDAO, applies algorithmic pixel sorting to transform diverse source visuals into serene pseudo-natural scenery, demonstrating his continued evolution across platforms and techniques.23
