Han Saglam, known online as hanrgb, is an internet-based artist pioneering the world computer as an artistic medium. His practice operates through generative systems, smart contracts, data, and machine intelligence, focusing on autonomous systems and digital permanence where code becomes art and smart contracts function as living, self-executing works.1 He explores what art becomes when it exists independently within computation, bridging digital and physical contexts through installations and computational artworks that translate onchain logic into spatial and experiential forms.2

Born in Turkey and now based in New York, Saglam entered the cryptocurrency ecosystem in 2016 and discovered NFTs in late 2018 through pioneering projects like CryptoPunks, which inspired his transition into blockchain-based creative work.3 He graduated from architecture school in 2020, and his background in spatial computation and 3D design provided a natural foundation for his generative practice. Building on this foundation, Saglam launched CryptoCubes Creators in 2021, a collaborative initiative inviting over one hundred world-renowned artists to create original 1-of-1 works inspired by individual CryptoCubes. Contributors include GMUNK, Refik Anadol, Zach Lieberman, DeeKay, Erick Calderon, Raf Grassetti, Rik Oostenbroek, and Six N. Released on May 13, 2021, AlgoRhythms is a collection of 1,000 generative audio-visual data sculptures created in collaboration with French digital artist and musician Nicolas Daniel.12 Curated by Art Blocks, the project represents a fusion of generative art with real-time musical composition: each unique hash drives the combination of colors, patterns, and musical scales into algorithmically-generated musical notes, making the NFTs themselves playable instruments.13

Saglam, an ardent music aficionado with a particular love for piano, sees art and technology as an intricate dance between input and output. Released on April 5, 2022, as part of the Art Blocks Playground collection, AlgoBeats represents a percussive evolution of the AlgoRhythms series, again in collaboration with Nicolas Daniel.16 Where AlgoRhythms explored harmony and musical scales, AlgoBeats delves into uncharted rhythms and sounds, functioning as a unique digital music box that fuses the systematic approach of programming with the dynamics of percussion.17

The project uses JavaScript oscillators and samples to create synchronized visual and rhythmic experiences driven by unique hashes, with each of the 1,000 editions serving as both a visual artwork and an interactive creative tool for musicians within the blockchain space.18 AlgoBeats boasts interactive easter eggs for users, encouraging playful experimentation with generative rhythm. The work exemplifies Saglam's commitment to hybrid digital music-art forms that blur the boundary between composition and code.

Physical Installations and Smart Contract Sovereignty

Beyond screen-based work, Saglam has pursued projects that bridge the digital and physical. LightOnChain, created in collaboration with the collective 404 Zero, is an NFT-powered light installation located in Kaplankaya, Turkey, consisting of 660 physical lights connected to blockchain hardware.19 The installation allows people to send transactions that change brightness, amplitude, frequency, and exact light patterns in the physical world, representing one of the first examples of a physical NFT installation. Saglam financed the project entirely from his crypto earnings, overseeing everything from contracting to installation.20

Since 2023, Saglam has developed a series of standalone smart contract artworks, each deployed as an individual contract on Ethereum with built-in marketplace functions for buying, selling, and bidding directly within the contract itself.21 These pieces, part of his "1 of 1" series, emphasize digital permanence and autonomy, with each contract containing minified JavaScript code and shader programs for real-time GPU rendering. The series began in October 2023 with "Digital Soul" and has progressed through monthly releases, resulting in approximately 28 documented pieces by late 2025.22

More recently, Saglam launched Artificial After All, a collection of 256 autonomous artworks deployed as individual smart contracts, each containing a compressed neural network that runs full inference onchain to produce a unique 32x32 grayscale image.23 This work pushes the boundary of what can be computed entirely within the Ethereum Virtual Machine, treating each contract as a sovereign, self-contained artistic entity.

Institutional Recognition and Legacy
