hex6c is the artistic identity of Massimo Franceschet, a data scientist and generative artist whose practice developed alongside his research into networks, computation, and blockchain culture. A 2022 interview describes him as an associate professor of computer science at the University of Udine and identifies the meeting of art and science as the central force in his work.1 That conjunction is not merely biographical. It determines how his images are conceived: as rule-bound structures capable of producing variation, surprise, and visual metaphor.
His entry into crypto art dates to 2018. A SuperRare editorial places him in the scene by June of that year and notes that his nickname and artworks reflect a dual character, at once rational and spiritual.2 The description is useful because hex6c does not treat code as a neutral production tool. Across projects involving logical propositions, astronomical models, hashes, networks, and invented organisms, computation becomes a language for staging relations between order and uncertainty.
A practice at disciplinary edges
In conversation, hex6c has located inspiration at the boundaries between disciplines. He has connected astrology with the historical geometry of Ptolemaic epicycles and joined computer science to Gödelian incompleteness through self-referential images containing both theorem and generating code.1 These examples establish a recurring method: begin with a formal or intellectual structure, translate it into visual rules, then allow the system to yield outcomes that exceed a single fixed composition.
This approach belongs to a broader account of generative art in which algorithms define a field of possibilities rather than one predetermined image. Franceschet's scholarly writing situates the recent growth of the form within blockchain culture and the emergence of non-fungible tokens, which made generative systems newly distributable as individually instantiated digital works.3 His position as artist and researcher therefore matters. The same computational environment can be examined as an aesthetic medium, a technical infrastructure, and a social network.
That breadth also shaped hex6c's early crypto-art activity. SuperRare highlighted his statistical analysis of frequently used words in artwork metadata, where terms including abstract, animation, AI, glitch, and generative appeared prominently.4 The exercise turned a marketplace archive into cultural material. It also demonstrated that his data practice and artistic practice are connected modes of attention, both concerned with patterns emerging from aggregated information.
InC and the generated figure
InC was released through Art Blocks Factory on January 25, 2022, as a collection of exactly 64 editions.5 Its compact scale focuses attention on variation across a shared generative vocabulary. The outputs present graphic, creature-like figures assembled from strong contours, segmented appendages, contrasting fields, and repeated motifs. They appear simultaneously diagrammatic and animate, as if a coded taxonomy had begun inventing its own inhabitants.
The series demonstrates how constrained parameters can sustain distinct identities. Changes in body organization, color, background, leg form, and surrounding elements alter the apparent temperament of each output without dissolving the collection's coherence. Some figures read as solitary specimens, while others suggest crowds, environments, or moments of transport. The visual economy is direct, but the system underneath supports a broad range of encounters between figure and field.

Code as cultural method
hex6c's significance within early crypto art lies partly in this movement between making and analysis. His work treats the blockchain not only as a distribution mechanism but as a source of forms, records, and collective behavior. The resulting practice is deliberately hybrid: scholarly without becoming illustrative, playful without abandoning formal rigor, and technically informed without reducing the artwork to its code.
A 2022 public exhibition in Milan placed hex6c among more than forty international digital artists, indicating how this blockchain-native practice circulated beyond marketplace interfaces into urban exhibition space.4 Within that wider history, InC offers a concise statement of his method. Its 64 editions transform a controlled program into a population of singular images, each one carrying the recognizable grammar of the whole while retaining its own peculiar presence.
