Sebastián Brocher’s practice joins the analytical habits of a computer engineer to a sustained engagement with music and visual art. Born in Buenos Aires, he encountered programming through a Commodore 128 as a child, studied classical piano, and later earned a Computer Engineering degree from the Buenos Aires Institute of Technology. Art Blocks describes nature, physics, mathematics, and computer science as recurring foundations of his work.1 These interests are not separate strands. They converge in systems whose rules become visible through rhythm, repetition, and controlled variation.
Brocher adopted the name CryptoArte from the generative Ethereum project he initiated in 2018. The 6529 Museum records the collection’s first mint on July 13, 2018 and characterizes it as an early large-scale generative NFT collection.2 The Museum of Crypto Art likewise places the project in its 2018 timeline, describing its images as generative tokens and paintings derived from Ethereum transaction-block hashes.3 This early work established a durable concern in Brocher’s practice: computation is not merely a tool for producing pictures, but a means of translating systems into perceptible form.
From blockchain records to visual systems
Each CryptoArte painting represents 576 consecutive Ethereum blocks through a deterministic transformation of public blockchain information. Colors, forms, and decorative elements encode variables including transaction activity and miners.4 A technical overview further explains that red, green, blue, and transparency correspond to different kinds of network data, while recurring miner symbols and block hashes introduce additional structures of distinction.5 The project therefore occupies two registers at once. It is an abstract visual field, and it is a historical diagram of machine activity.
Brocher’s own account of the project’s 2018 development emphasizes accessibility alongside technical experimentation. During the pre-launch period, he built a direct store, mobile support, and a smart-contract sales system intended to make acquisition and high-resolution access less cumbersome.6 His broader technical writing from the same period documents practical work with Ethereum, IPFS, smart contracts, and browser-based applications.7 This engineering background helps explain the clarity of his artistic systems: rules, interfaces, and outputs are conceived as parts of one structure.
Rotor
Released through Art Blocks Factory on June 17, 2022, Rotor comprises 285 editions.8 Across the series, circular and radial structures produce a sense of rotation without abandoning the flatness of the image. Segmented rings, repeated marks, and calibrated palettes make each output feel both mechanical and optical. The title identifies the organizing metaphor, but the results range from dense, instrument-like assemblies to open configurations in which negative space becomes an active component.
The series extends Brocher’s interest in rendering invisible rules legible. Instead of mapping historical blockchain records, Rotor organizes perception around recurrence and displacement. Its editions invite comparison because variation occurs inside a visibly stable grammar. The NFT Market Report’s inclusion of Rotor among generative releases from the first half of 2022 situates the project within a wider period of platform-based algorithmic production.9

Fluiroso
Fluiroso, an Art Blocks Presents project of 106 editions, shifts attention from rotational order toward fluid, branching movement.1 Its layered contours suggest currents, filaments, topographies, or material under pressure. The work’s visual ambiguity is central to its effect. Forms appear governed by physical behavior, yet they remain unmistakably computational, generated through a designed field of possibilities.
This movement from encoded ledger history to simulated motion demonstrates the breadth of Brocher’s systems-based approach. In a 2022 podcast conversation, he discussed generative art from the combined perspectives of artist, engineer, and entrepreneur.10 Those roles converge in Fluiroso: the algorithm establishes conditions, the output materializes them, and the viewer encounters a singular event within a bounded edition. Together, Rotor and Fluiroso show a practice concerned less with a signature motif than with how rules acquire visual character.
